This marks a new milestone in Japan–Philippines agricultural trade, giving Filipino consumers access to one of Japan’s most celebrated and high-quality fruits.
Japanese strawberries have officially entered the Philippine market, following the lifting of a long-standing import ban in December 2024. The change came after successful negotiations between Japan’s agriculture ministry and Philippine quarantine authorities, which cleared the way for fresh Japanese strawberries and related products.
Previously restricted due to pest concerns, the ban was lifted after detailed technical discussions. The talks were initiated in response to requests from Japanese strawberry-growing regions seeking market access.
Japanese strawberries are now available at select locations in Manila. Known for their sweetness and premium quality, the fruit has been promoted through a campaign launched by the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) Manila.
Promotional videos highlighting the strawberries’ taste, nutrition, and craftsmanship have been shared on JETRO’s social media channels. The Embassy of Japan also celebrated the move online, calling it a “berry-delicious” milestone for both countries.
