The British authorities will implement a new food labeling system. In order to combat obesity and to better assist the public to choose a healthier diet, this system will allow us to assess, at a glance, the level of fat, sugar and salt in a product :
• Red (high level): caution, to consume from time to time,
The new labeling is advised by the authorities. The main producers and distributors (Sainsbury's, Tesco, Mars UK, Nestlé UK, PepsiCo UK) which represent approximately 60% of food products sold in the country have joined the new system. The first "tricolor" labels are to appear before the end of the year
In the UK, obesity has become a real problem: 61% of the adult population, one third of children aged from 10-11 and 1/4 of 4-5 years are overweight or obese.
