A national law on organic products will help to win the trust of consumers but also to develop the production sector.
In Cambodia, the enactment of the organic food law, currently under development, is being urged by the private sector. A national law on organic products is the key factor in building consumer confidence and thus ensuring the development of the sector.
Cambodia does not have legislation for the certification of organic products. For now, farmers are simply saying that their products are organic, but consumers are still reluctant to buy them. Only a national law could enforce standards, control quality and thus win the trust of consumers.
After the adoption of the requested law, a logo on the product will attest to its biological quality, in accordance with the standards. It will also encourage farmers to grow their crops, adding value to their products through better prices.
