Reliable protection to guarantee the origin of Serbian raspberries

Counterfeit cases of the origin of raspberries sold in North American markets have shaken consumer confidence. Serbia, a major producer and exporter, has decided to protect itself against possible counterfeiting of its raspberries by using hologram stickers.

 

 

 

A scam has just been discovered in the raspberry trade. Chilean companies have been caught repackaging cheap raspberries of Chinese origin for shipment to markets in North America, particularly Canada, as organic Chilean raspberries.

 

 

 

As Serbia is a major player in the raspberry market, producers have decided to protect the origin of their products with hologram stickers. The hologram guarantees that the goods are of Serbian origin, variety "Vilamet" and "Miker" and that there is no possibility of re-export or repackaging.

 

 

 

It is the most reliable and fastest protection to guarantee the origin of raspberries, according to Serbian producers. "Consumers are becoming more aware of the products they buy, where they were produced and how they were produced" said the director of the cooperative "Nasi Vocari" (Our fruit farmers). "Such production can lead to more than half a billion euros in raspberry trade. Serbia currently exports 200 million EUR of raspberries per year."

 

 

 

In Serbia, raspberry areas reach 25,418 hectares and raspberry production was expected in July 2020 to total 128,971 tons.
