Ginger exports from Peru expected to bounce back in 2025

Despite the progress, there are still important challenges to address.
Peruvian ginger exports are expected to bounce back in value this year after a drop of 8% in 2024, when shipments totaled US$118.3 million, according to Edgar Vásquez Vela, director of CIEN-ADEX. The decline last year was mainly due to a 34.6% drop in export volumes, but growers in the producing regions say recovery is underway — a positive sign for the sector.
Despite this progress, there are still key challenges to address, including the need for better agricultural practices, improved sanitary standards, and stronger technical support for small-scale producers. Experts say tackling these issues is essential to ensure the sector's long-term growth and success.
Building a sustainable value chain is now a top priority. Organizations like Agromercado and the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation are working to boost both domestic and international demand for Peruvian ginger.
These updates were shared during the 5th Ginger Week event, held from May 15 to 17 in Satipo, Junín.
