Peru could double its avocado acreage
FJ
The areas of avocados could double by 2017 in Peru.
This is the opinion of one of the largest exporters in the country, reported by the Agraria.pe website, which believes that the cultivation of the avocado still has potential in the country. With investments, new plantings and irrigation, Peru could reach 20,000 hectares of crops of Hass avocados, thus doubling the existing surfaces.
This increase in areas would allow to exceed the volumes of Chile, which produces 190,000 tonnes (currently on about 33,974 hectares). For 2013, Peru expects to export 100,000 tons of avocados, an increase of 16.6% compared to the volume exported in 2012.
