The 2019-20 Florida crop forecast published by the USDA Agricultural Statistics Board is reduced from 2.00 million boxes to 72.0 million boxes. If these forecasts come true, they will be slightly higher than last season's final production. The forecast includes 41 million boxes of Valencia oranges and 31 million boxes of non-Valencia oranges (early, mid-season and Navel varieties).
Oranges Valencia
The forecast for Valencia orange production is lowered by 1.00 million boxes from the previous forecast, to 41 million boxes. The current fruit size is below average and should be below average at harvest.
Non-Valencia oranges
The production forecast is lowered from 1.00 million boxes to 31 million boxes.
Grapefruits
The forecast for total grapefruit production is up 500,000 boxes, or 5.90 million boxes. The forecast for white grapefruit remains unchanged at 900,000 boxes. The forecast for red grapefruit is 5 million boxes, an increase of 500,000 boxes. The size of the white and red grapefruits is above average.
Tangerines and tangelos
The forecast for tangerines and tangelos is unchanged from the January forecast of 1.05 million boxes, but 6% more than last season with 990,000 boxes.
