Biral has developed into a productive zone for mangoes following earlier success with litchi exports.
On June 21, 2025, 100 kg of Banana variety mangoes from Biral Upazila in Dinajpur, Bangladesh, were exported to Switzerland. Additional shipments totalling 3 metric tons of Banana, Katimon, and BARI-4 mango varieties are scheduled for export to Sweden and Qatar.
Mangoes were cultivated organically on 4 acres in Sadardanga village by Mominul Islam, who began the orchard in 2019. As of 2025, the cultivation area has expanded to 18 acres with around 7,560 mango trees.
This year’s yield significantly surpassed the previous season, with each Banana variety tree producing 100–250 fruits. Mangoes are being sold at 120–130 taka per kg (approximately $1.03–$1.11 USD/kg), with collection starting on June 20.
Last year, small-scale exports were made to England. In 2025, exports have continued with guidance from the Ministry of Agriculture and Commerce. The mango sector in Biral is seeing increased farmer participation and employment generation (25–30 people per orchard).
According to the local agricultural extension office, Biral has developed into a productive zone for mangoes following earlier success with litchi exports.
