A tropical cyclone has affected the banana production areas in Australia.
Production has caused considerable damage in Queensland and the north of the NSW (New South Wales) region to agricultural production, particularly bananas.
It is still too early to fully estimate the damage, but the initial estimates indicate harvest losses of 20 to 50% depending on the area.
Some plantations of bananas are decimated, plants folded or torn by the violence of the cyclone. Others have been more resilient, as the banana plantations of the Lady Finger variety have better withstood these bad climatic conditions than the plantations of the Cavendish variety.
