PROCOMER (Promotora del Comercio Exterior de Costa Rica) announced a 4.7% growth during the first four months of the year and 6.4% for the last 12 months. The country has diversified products and destinations.
The food sector has progressed by +15.5%. In the agricultural sector the best performances come from the chayote (67.4%) bananas (10.9%) and yam (11.4%).
The desire of market diversification has targeted South Korea, France, Italy, Qatar, Russia, Poland and Turkey. North America always occupies the first place with 42.9% of total exports, followed by the European Union with 19.3% and then in Asia with 14.2% (576 million U.S. dollars) and Central America with 13.2%.
