Positive forecast reflects better climatic conditions and efficient orchard management.
The state of Santa Catarina in Brazil will produce around 615,000 tonnes of apples in the 2025/26 season — a 28% increase compared to the previous cycle, according to the country's agricultural research agency Epagri/Cepa.
Despite a slight 0.3% decline in planted area, productivity is expected to rise by 28.4%, reaching an average of 35.7 tonnes per hectare. The Fuji variety is set to lead production, representing 53.8% of cultivated area and 51.2% of total volume, followed by Gala apples, with 44.3% of area and 47.2% of output.
The Campos de Lages region will remain the main production hub, responsible for 83% of the crop, followed by Joaçaba (11%) and Curitibanos (6%).
According to Epagri, the favourable projection reflects better climatic conditions and efficient orchard management. Analysts, however, advise producers to monitor market trends and maintain balance between production growth and price stability.
