In 2022 the production in Germany of edible mushrooms reached a lower volume than the 2021 production but this 2022 production constitutes the 3rd most important harvest.
According to Destatis, the Federal Statistical Office, in Germany 78,164 tonnes of edible mushrooms were harvested in 2022. That is -6.72% compared to 2021 (83,799 tonnes) and -0.73% compared to 2020 (78,733 tons) and +8.88% compared to 2019 (71,786 tons).
Of this volume produced by German mushroom companies, 'button' mushrooms represent a share of 97.3% of the total, with 76,085 tonnes, or -6.13% compared to 2021 (81,050 tonnes).
As far as areas are concerned, the Destatis data announces for this 2022 production a total area harvested of 371.1 hectares, i.e. -6.72% compared to 2021 (379 hectares). For the production of 'button' mushrooms alone, the area harvested reached 360.7 hectares, i.e. -1.29% compared to 2021 (365.4 hectares) and +5.78% compared to 2020 (341 hectares).
