U.S rejects shipment of grapes from Peru
VU
In February 2022, one case of rejection of the shipment of grapes from Peru destined for the United States was reported.
The Food and Drug Administration in the U.S (FDA), which is responsible for verifying quality of food imported into the country, rejected a shipment of grapes made by the company Fruitxchange, from Sullana, Piura. The reason was identified as "Adulteration" due to the suspicion that the product contains chemical pesticide residues.
In turn, Giuseppe Acceta, commercial manager of Fruitxchange, commented that they never used the pesticide detected in the shipment. The applied product was not found either in their invoices or the registry.
He assured that they verify all their batches before exporting, and throughout the campaign they had exported several containers to the United States without problems, and that the same batch had already been verified before and was satisfied. He added that his company has been exporting to the US since 2010 (in addition to Canada, Europe, Central America and Asia).
The manager assumes that the explanation may lie in the analysis that was sent to the laboratory, and the equipment used for the collection could maintain residues of the product detected in this shipment of grapes.
