The main supplier countries of the Spanish market are: Morocco, Peru and Argentina (non-EU countries) and France, Portugal and the Netherlands (EU).
Spanish imports of Fresh Fruits & Vegetables from non-EU countries increased by 18% from January to September 2018 compared to the same period last year, with Morocco being the No. 1 supplier with a turnover of EUR 507 million.
According to FEPEX data, Morocco consolidates its position of supplier N ° 1 (non-EU country). For the last 5 years of the ananalysed period, from January to September, imports from Morocco rose from EUR 185 million to EUR 507 million, ie 174% more and in volume of 153,530 tons. to 321,188 tonnes, an increase of 109%.
Spain imported green beans (+ 15% by volume), peppers (+ 22%), tomatoes (+ 18%), zucchini (+ 54%) and watermelons (+ 14%) raspberries (+ 51%), blueberries (+ 16%) and avocados (+ 55%) from Morocco.
Imports from EU countries decreased by 13% to EUR 615.4 million. France being the leading supplier with EUR 201 million (-14%), ahead of Portugal with EUR 126.5 million (+ 3%) and the Netherlands with EUR 97 million (-10%) , over the period analyzed.
