Peru exports grapes to 50 markets around the world. For this 2020/21 season, Peruvian exports should increase in volume by 16%.
According to estimates Provid (Asociación de Productores y Exportadores de Uva de Mesa del Perú), exports for the 2020/21 season will amount to 56 million boxes (8.2 kilos), an increase of 16% compared to the previous season.
The growth projected for this season is linked to the new varieties that have been incorporated into Peru's export basket. The country now exports several dozen different varieties to more than 50 markets around the world. The increase in cultivated areas as well as the increased productivity of new varieties explain the expected growth.
“As an industry, we are in a process of varietal conversion, which is clearly seen in the gradual decrease in the volume of the Red Globe variety in the export basket,” said Provid. 4 years ago, the Red Globe variety represented 50% of the total exported but only 32% last season.
