Potatoes, onion, garlic and tomato are the most imported vegetables by Nepal

According to Customs Department data, in the past 5 months Nepal has imported vegetables worth NPR 60 million rupees (USD 0.498 million) per day.

 

The Nepalese Customs Department announced that vegetable imports over the past 5 months (mid-July to mid-December) totaled 8.59 billion NPR rupees (70.6 million USD), a value of 60 million NPR rupees (0.498 million USD) per day on average. The country mainly imports vegetables from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

 

During this 5 month period, Nepal imported potatoes worth NPR 5.27 billion (US $ 43.7 million), onions worth NPR 2.47 billion (US $ 22.4 million) , green garlic valued at NPR 374.1 million ($ 3.1 million), tomatoes valued at NPR 186.6 million ($ 1.5 million). The classification established by the Customs Department then mentions spinach, mushrooms, pumpkins, carrots, peppers and beans.

 

According to a report released by the National Planning Commission, imports of agricultural products are increasing as the purchasing power of Nepalese increases.
