Protocol signed with China for the export of Spanish cherries
Fruit and vegetable sales in China in 2024 were 3,871 tons and 6.8 million euros.
In the framework of the official trip that the President of the Government is making these days to China, the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas and the Minister of the General Administration of Customs of China, Sun Meijun, have signed a new protocol to export cherries to the Asian country, which has been positively valued by FEPEX, since it will open this market to the cherry sector, which has among its main objectives the diversification of export destinations.
6,528 tons of cherries outside the EU
For FEPEX, the signing of the protocol for the export of Spanish cherries to China will open new export possibilities for this fruit, whose cultivation has had an important development, especially in Aragon, and which has among its main objectives the diversification of destinations.The export of cherry from Spain in 2024 stood at 39,968 tons of which 33,440 tons went to the EU and 6,528 tons outside the EU, with the United Kingdom being the first non-EU market, with 5,725 tons followed by South Africa, with 100 tons and Hong Kong with 103 tons. The value of total cherry shipments amounted to 139 million euros, of which 110 million went to the EU.
3,871 tons of Spanish fruit in China
As for Spanish fresh fruit and vegetable exports to China, in 2024 they stood at only 3,871 tons, which accounted for 0.03% of the total exported by Spain last year, which amounted to 12.3 million tons. The value of fruit and vegetable exports to China was 6.8 million euros, according to data processed by the Customs and Excise Department.
