Peruvian avocados will soon leave for China

The huge Chinese market will soon be open to avocados from Peru.

After more than a year of negotiations , the protocol of the respective safety precautions in the two countries is about to be approved by AQSIQ , the Central Authority which controls the quality of products in China. Upon signing the protocol , an administrative procedure about two months is necessary , which means that the 1st Peruvian avocados will arrive in China in the month of December.

The period from October to December is less favorable for the production of avocados and generates only 16% of total production . It is the period from March to August , which is more favorable concentrating 70% of the national production (data from the Ministry of Agriculture).

Total exports of avocados are expected to reach $ 215 million by the end of 2014 , +20 % from last year. Currently , Peru is the second largest producer and exporter covering 8.2% of the market. Mexico is the first world exporter concentrating approximately 43 % of shipments. Spain occupies the third position and the fourth by Chile.
