New maritime route connects Guangzhou with Peruvian port of Chancay

A new direct maritime link connects the Chinese port of Guangzhou with the Peruvian port of Chancay, aiming to reduce logistics costs and strengthen trade with Latin America. The service was inaugurated on April 29 with the departure of the COSCO Volga, which carried over 400 refrigerated containers and industrial parts produced in Guangdong, according to a Latin American media outlets.
The journey to Peru takes approximately 30 days and reduces logistics costs by 20%. In addition to Chancay, the route will connect with other key Pacific ports in Latin America, including Manzanillo (Mexico) and San Antonio (Chile).
According to CCTV, exports of household appliances, electronics, furniture, and toys to the region are on the rise. Meanwhile, South American fruits, seafood, and wine will reach the Chinese market more quickly.
The first phase of the Chancay port was inaugurated in November following a $1.3 billion investment by Cosco Shipping. President Xi Jinping hailed it as a major milestone in the 21st-century Maritime Silk Road.
