The Ambassador of South Korea in Chile, Keun Ho Jang, paid a visit to the packaging of Gesex, a Chilean fruit exporter, in order to check the production and export process of cherries, within the framework of the work that develops the Chilean fruit export sector.
The President of ASOEX, Ronald Bown, together with the General Manager of the same entity, Miguel Canala-Echeverría, and the second secretariats of the South Korean Embassy in Chile, Jin Heui KIM and Seojin Mun, accompanied the Ambassador on that day.
The CEO of Gesex, Christian Gwynne and the Chairman of the Board of the company, Cristián Allendes, and other executives of the firm, led the tour that included the selection and packing process.
It should be noted that a few days ago the Ambassador met with the managers of ASOEX in Santiago, to analyze the situation of the 2021/22 export season, as well as the start of negotiations for the entry of Chilean plums to the Korean market.
Ronald Bown pointed out that it is important for the representatives of the destination markets for their fruits to better understand the technologies, innovations and the strict protocols that are followed to prevent Covid and ensure the safety of the fruit that consumers receive.
South Korea is the fourth destination for Chilean fruits on the Asian continent, after China, Taiwan and India. For this reason, it is an important market, in which Chile can further enhance its shipments.
Cherry is the second most exported species to Korea, being well received by Korean consumers.
In the 2020/21 season, South Korea received 37,949 tons of fresh Chilean fruits, 7% higher than in the 2020-2019 season.
The fruits that are exported to this market are table grapes, cherries, blueberries, lemons, oranges, avocados and kiwis.
