Lower production volume leads to higher prices
Nigeria

With an annual production of about 1.5 million tons of tomatoes, Nigeria is the 2nd largest producer in Africa.
The volume of tomato production is collapsing due to the devastation of the Tuta Absoluta parasite, which affects several producing areas in Nigeria.
Nigeria had already been hit last year by the parasite which had caused a shortage of tomatoes causing a dizzying rise in prices. This year the parasite hit areas spared last year when producers were not prepared to fight it.
The consequences are similar to those of last year, a severe drop in volumes and a rise in prices (+ 200%).
