Hanoi vegetable prices double after storm Bualoi

Traders warn of further shortages in the coming days if flooding persists.
Prices of green vegetables in Hanoi, Vietnam, have surged sharply following storm Bualoi, with supplies tightening due to heavy rainfall and flooding in nearby farming areas.
According to local media, at markets across the city, the cost of water spinach, Chinese cabbage, and Malabar spinach has nearly doubled. Water spinach now sells for 15,000–20,000 VND per bunch (USD 0.59–0.79) and squash for up to 30,000 VND/kg (USD 1.18). Traders said continuous rain has damaged crops, leaving limited supply.
In some markets, residents queued early to buy vegetables as prices of cauliflower rose to 50,000 VND/kg (USD 1.97), while root vegetables remained stable. Vendors warned that shortages could worsen in the next few days if flooded fields are not drained.
Consumers expressed concern over fast-rising costs, with some noting that vegetable prices are now higher than meat. Meteorological forecasts predict more rain in the following days, suggesting that vegetable prices may remain high unless new supplies arrive from neighbouring provinces.
