Australian scientists say they have bred a pineapple which contains twice more Vitamin C compared to other varieties
A 15-year joint government and industry breeding program has produced the Aus-Jubilee pineapple.
The new variety is called “Australian Jubilee” and was selected for its aromatic flavour, low acidity, firm flesh and good coloration. It contains 25mg of vitamins per 100ml of juice, a bit less than orange juice but double that of normal processed pineapple.
The commercial launch was made during the Royal Show in Brisbane on Tuesday.
The Aus- Jubilee pineapple will be available in supermarkets in November.
