Export of Kinnows misses objectives
FJ
There has been a difficult start to the season for exports of kinnows in Pakistan.
Kinnow exports for December 2012 were down 13% compared to forecasts. Pakistan exported only 39,000 tons of Kinnow compared to a projected 45,000 tons.
Several reasons may explain this decrease. A strike of transporters for 2 weeks disrupted the industry. Due to economic sanctions imposed by the United States on trade with Iran, Pakistan does not export to its largest traditional market. Exports to Iran represented an annual volume of 25,000 tons. Finally, the last possible explanation,
The PDCA (Pakistan Fruit and Vegetable Exporters, Importers and Merchant Association) expects a production of at least 1.8 million tonnes of Kinnow this season (December to April). The export target is 200,000 tons. Its main destinations are: Ukraine, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Philippines, Sri Lanka, England, Kuwait, Canada, Malaysia, Singapore, Bangladesh and Bahrain.
