Korean strawberries can now be exported to Brazil after eight years of negotiations, marking a significant step for Korea's agricultural exports. The Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Quarantine Headquarters announced on February 26 that Brazil has finalized import quarantine requirements, officially opening the market for Korean strawberries.
Negotiations with Brazil’s plant quarantine authorities began in 2017 and concluded when Brazil confirmed that import conditions had taken effect. Korea already exports around 4,000 tons of strawberries annually to Singapore, Hong Kong, and Thailand, and this new agreement is expected to further expand international sales.
To meet Brazil’s quarantine regulations, Korean strawberry growers must register their greenhouses and line managers before planting. Additionally, strict pest control measures must be followed, and all shipments must undergo plantation and export quarantine procedures.
To support a smooth export process, the quarantine headquarters plans to establish official export guidelines for shipping fresh Korean strawberries to Brazil in the first half of this year.
