World production of table grapes has increased to 16.5 million tons
The world production of table grapes is increasing.
USDA (U.S. Department of Agriculture) estimates that world production of table grapes has increased by half a million tons. Production for 2011/2012 reached 16.5 million tons and China accounted for almost all of this growth.
China continues to increase its production but can not meet domestic demand. Its imports rose 40% to
reach 168,000 tons. Production in the United States declined slightly, reaching 897,000 tons. Chile's production is also down slightly. In Argentina the decline is estimated at 25%.
The European Union and Turkey maintain production equivalent to the previous year: 1.9 million tons for the EU and 2.2 million tons for Turkey.
