Devgad Alphonso mango hits shelves in Maharashtra two months early

Favourable weather and better orchard care sped up fruit maturity this year.
Mango lovers in Maharashtra (India) are celebrating an unexpected treat this Diwali as the famous Devgad Hapus (Alphonso) mango hit the markets much earlier than usual. Typically seen between December and January, the first batch from the Konkan region reached Vashi market just in time for the festival, delighting traders and consumers alike.
Local growers sent the first consignments nearly two months ahead of schedule. Despite limited supply and high prices, demand remains strong as customers rush to buy the season’s first fruits, prized for their natural ripening and signature aroma.
Farmers attribute the early harvest to favourable weather and better orchard care, which sped up fruit maturity this year. The first lots fetched premium prices, encouraging more growers to follow. The arrival of the GI-tagged Devgad Alphonso mangoes — recognised globally for their exceptional taste and quality — marks the start of what promises to be another strong season for the Konkan mango belt.
