The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock describes strawberries as a high-value crop with growing domestic demand and quality competitive with imported varieties.
Afghanistan’s strawberry output has grown notably this year, increasing by 9% compared to 2024, according to figures released by the Taliban-led Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock.
The ministry reported that national production reached 681 tons, up from 622 tons last year. A total of 1,081 hectares were cultivated across six provinces, nearly doubling last year’s planting area of 575 hectares. The highest yields came from Balkh, Herat, and Nangarhar, with additional cultivation in Badakhshan, Panjshir, and Daikundi.
Officials attributed the growth to favourable weather and improved orchard management. The ministry described strawberries as a high-value crop with growing domestic demand and quality competitive with imported varieties, underscoring their potential as a profitable addition to Afghanistan’s agricultural portfolio.
