Colombia’s avocado industry is rapidly strengthening its position in the US market, with exports doubling in just one year and a new promotional campaign launched to sustain momentum.
According to the Colombian Avocado Board (CCA), shipments to the US jumped from 60 million pounds in 2023 to 134 million pounds in the 2024–25 season. The sector expects exports to reach 160–200 million pounds between July 2025 and June 2026.
According to Manuel Michel, CCA’s executive director, the output is now two years ahead of the original growth projections. He noted that overall production could hit 300–350 million pounds by 2029. Once focused mainly on Europe, Colombia has shifted its distribution, with the US now taking 45% of total exports, up from 22% last year.
To capitalise on this growth, the CCA launched the “Raised by Colombia” retail campaign, which features digital ads, coupons, and retailer-specific activations. With two growing seasons across eight regions, Colombia ensures year-round supply — the main crop runs from October to March, and a secondary one from August to September.
Most shipments arrive through Philadelphia (65%) and Florida (33%), benefiting from transit times of just three to five days. The campaign also highlights Colombia’s unique growing conditions — volcanic soil, abundant rainfall, and consistent climate — to strengthen its connection with consumers and reinforce its image as a reliable global avocado source.
