The full digitalisation is expected to reduce vessel reception times by up to 70%.
Chile has completed the nationwide deployment of its Single Maritime Window (VUMAR), marking a key step in the modernisation of the country’s port and maritime system. Led by the Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications, the platform centralises vessel arrival and departure procedures in line with International Maritime Organization standards in force since January 2024.
VUMAR replaces a previously fragmented process with a single digital channel. Shipping agents now submit all documentation once, with the system automatically routing it to the relevant public authorities. Health, customs and other services can confirm their participation in real time, while final clearance to operate is granted only after all approvals are validated through the platform.
The system was rolled out progressively, starting in the Biobío region and reaching southern ports by November 2025. As of 11 January 2026, VUMAR had 1,620 registered users, processed 3,297 port calls and handled more than 18,400 requests. Authorities estimate the full digitalisation of procedures will cut vessel reception times by up to 70%, reducing operating costs and improving the efficiency of Chile’s foreign trade.
Officials describe VUMAR as a structural tool that strengthens transparency and predictability across the port chain, positioning Chile’s logistics system to better meet the demands of global shipping and trade.
