South west producers want a AOC label to cope with competition
In order to cope with competition, the producers of artichoke from the Roussillon area (south-west France) are fighting to get an area control label (Appellation d'Origine Controlée).
In this objective, the government body of the Pyrennées Orientales has introduced a promotion campaign with this motto:
"Roussillon artichoke, It's here and it's now in the Catalan country"
The Roussillon area is the second producer of artichokes in France, with a volume of 14.000 tons / year grown by 250 producers.
