In France, unfavourable weather conditions this spring have led to a late start to the season, which should end positively.
A publication by Agreste Conjoncture, an agency of the French Ministry of Agriculture, has announced that strawberry production in 2024, based on data as at 1 May 2024, is estimated at 76,300 tonnes.
This represents a stable volume compared with production in 2023, and a 5% increase on the 2019-2023 average.
The area under production is 3,778 hectares (-2% compared with 2023), divided into 2,207 hectares of greenhouse production and 1,571 hectares of open-air production.
According to Agreste, France has several major production areas:
Centre-West with 505 hectares. The Centre region accounts for 4% of national production
South-West with 1,214 hectares. The Aquitaine region accounts for 39% of national production.
South-East with 1,156 hectares. The Rhône-Alpes and Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur regions account for around 23% of national production.
Other regions: 903 hectares.
