Malaysia and Uzbekistan are deepening their agricultural partnership, with a focus on boosting fruit and vegetable trade.
Recently, a delegation of Uzbek officials, regional leaders, and farming experts visited Malaysia to explore new opportunities for cooperation.
Following the visit, both countries agreed to increase Uzbekistan’s exports of fruits and vegetables to Malaysia and to work on improving farming techniques.
Malaysia’s Agricultural Marketing Agency will partner with Uzbek farmers to ensure smooth trade and deliver high-quality produce to Malaysian consumers.
Uzbekistan aims to supply more fresh and processed fruits, such as melons, cherries, and apricots, to meet Malaysia’s growing demand.
To support this trade, Malaysia’s Jakim organization will train Uzbek farmers and businesses in Halal certification, helping them access wider markets across Southeast Asia.
Beyond expanding trade, the two nations are also joining forces to modernize farming practices.
A Malaysian company is working alongside Uzbekistan’s agricultural research institute to introduce smart technologies, including drones, to improve irrigation and reduce crop waste.
Additionally, the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute has partnered with Uzbekistan’s agricultural innovation center on a seed exchange program.
This initiative focuses on developing crops that can withstand drought and salty soil, making them well-suited to Uzbekistan’s dry climate.
