About half of Qatar's imports come from the Middle East. Saudi Arabia (dairy products, poultry) and the United Arab Emirates (re-export of fruits and vegetables).
The announcement by Saudi Arabia to close its border with Qatar, the only land border of the country and through which 40% of the food consumed by Qataris passes, has caused a rush to the country's grocery and supermarket.
The quataris rushed to the saling points to procure themselves with food products. The authorities said that the closure of the border would have no impact on the supply of shops and would not hamper the daily life of the population.
Qatar produces less than 10% of its food needs. The country imported 99.5% of its cereal requirements; 93.6% of its meat requirements; 83.4% of its vegetable needs and 86% of its fruit needs.
