On January 22, Westfalia Fruit acquired a controlling interest in Hausladen Fruchthandel, a family-owned fruit supplier from Munich, Germany.
With 89 years of experience, Hausladen remains an important multinational provider in Germany with such products as avocado, papaya, mango and pomegranate as well as products from southern Europe. The company is also active at Austrian and Slovenian markets.
The deal correlates with the aim of the Westfalia Fruit Group, which is to widen and retain its position as a global avocado market leader.
“Germany is the 3d largest retail avocado market in Europe which has strong potential for further growth”, precised Alk Brand, CEO of Westfalia Fruit.
Andreas and Christoph Buchner, the members of the founding family, will stay in the business. Christoph will remain as CEO of the entity.
He commented that as a prominent importer of exotic produce, as a ripener, distributor and packer in Germany, they have accumulated a strong base of blue-chip retail customers. He stressed that this deal provides them with new opportunities to become the leader of the German market and other targeted territories, and gives them access to an established and integrated supply chain with the possibility to widen.
