Banana and pineapple imports remain steady across Chile’s wholesale markets

Imports from Ecuador continue to supply Chile’s wholesale markets.
Regular imports of bananas and pineapples from Ecuador continued to supply Chile’s main wholesale markets at the end of March, with stable volumes and prices recorded across several trading centres, according to the latest fruit and vegetable bulletin from Chile’s Office of Agricultural Studies and Policies (Odepa).
Bananas
In the Lo Valledor wholesale market in the Metropolitan Region, arrivals included 2,040 boxes of semi-ripe bananas and 1,240 boxes of ripe bananas from Ecuador. The average wholesale price reached CLP 21,941 (USD 23.10) per 20-kg box for semi-ripe fruit and CLP 20,032 (USD 21.09) per 20-kg box for ripe fruit.
Banana shipments were also recorded in regional destinations. In the Talca wholesale market, estimated arrivals reached 1,000 boxes of semi-ripe bananas from Ecuador, sold at an average price of CLP 25,000 (USD 26.32) per 20-kg box, confirming continued supply flows outside the capital region.
Pineapples
Imports of fresh pineapples from Ecuador were distributed through several markets, including Lo Valledor and Vega Central Mapocho. In Lo Valledor, estimated arrivals totalled 216 boxes, with an average price of CLP 28,250 (USD 29.74) per box of 10 units. Other pack sizes of 12 to 16 fruits per box traded at roughly CLP 29,500 to CLP 30,000 (USD 31.05 to USD 31.58).
