World production of hazelnuts climbs

World production of hazelnuts is expected to increase by nearly 9% for the 2011/2012 compared to last season.
 
At the Nut & Dried Fruit World Congress, Nestle company Rossano Barbieri announced the production estimates. World production for 2010/11 is 853,700 tonnes and for 2011/12 the forecast is 921,500 tonnes.
 
Turkey is expected to produce 630,000 tons maintaining its market leadership. Italy should strengthen its volumes from 87,200 tonnes in 2010/11 to an expected 125,000 tonnes.
