Exports of Turkish fruits and vegetables down for the first time of the year.

While since the beginning of the year, the upward trend compared to the same period in 2016 had been maintained until April 2017, exports in May are decreasing, due to earlier closure of the citrus season and a decrease of 18% in quantity and 8% in value of fruit exports.
57% of total exports (in quantity) are vegetables, whose exports were higher than May 2016 with + 9% in quantity and + 5% in value. Tomato remains the first vegetable exported despite a decrease of 25%. The increase in exports of onions (+ 146%), potatoes (+ 96%) and cucumbers (+ 275%) was noteworthy.
31% of total exports are fruit. The first fruit exported is cherry, followed by apricot and peach.
Russia ranks first in importing countries, accounting for 26 per cent of total fruit and vegetable exports and an increase of 685 per cent in quantity and 407 per cent in value compared with the same period in 2016. Germany, in third place after Iraq, with a decline in exports of 42% (in quantity) and 47% (in value terms), still in comparaison with May 2016.
