Apricot exports have doubled

The homeland of apricot, Armenia, recorded a net increase in exports of 2013, almost double the volume in 2012.
This year the Armenian apricot exports have doubled.
An official of Ministry of Agriculture announced that apricot exports reached 12,700 tons this year. Nearly double compared to 6500 tonnes exported in the same period last year.
In the country, processing companies bought 4,500 tons of apricots this year, there is also a net marked increase compared to 2200 tonnes purchased for the same period in 2012.
Armenia is considered the homeland of apricot, the scientific name of apricot is Prunus armeniaca (Armenian plum). Archaeological excavations in the country have revealed the presence of 6000 years old apricot kernels .
