This is the most important harvest which most of the farmers have ever seen in their life.
After 3 years of difficult harvests due to bad climatic conditions, the harvests of this year seem to be exceptional in Georgia and in South Carolina.
”Georgia peach growers could see one of the best harvests in years; this is the most peaches that most of the farmers have ever seen in their lives" said Phil Brannen, a professor of plant pathology in Georgia.
The last bumper crop in Georgia and South Carolina came in 2004, but as peaches glutted the market, prices plunged and much of the low-priced fruit rotted in the orchards.
This expected bumper crop could allow Georgia to export its peaches for the first time in 20 years.
