In Belgium, spending on organic products doubled between 2008 and 2017.
In Belgium the consumption of organic products increased by 6% last year. Between 2008 and 2017, spending on organic products doubled.
According to data from VLAM, the Flemish Food Center, and the GfK Institute, Belgians spent 6% more on organic food products in 2017 than in 2016. Comparing the figures for 2008 and 2017, spent on organic food purchases by Belgian consumers doubled.
Vegetables, fruits and potatoes make up 40% of the expenses.
The study reveals that 9 out of 10 Belgians buy at least 1 organic product per year. The share of frequent buyers (11%) has increased, and 60% of expenditures are made by families buying organic products at least once a week.
