Bountiful harvests help boost exports

This year the harvests are abundant in Pakistan; which will stimulate the national economy by making it possible to increase exports for certain products and to decrease imports for other products.
At a press conference, Syed Fakhar Imam, the Federal Minister in charge of National Food Security and Research, indicated that the Pakistani economy will be boosted by the abundant production recorded this year compared to last year. The country will increase its exports for certain products and reduce its imports for others.
According to the minister, mango exports should reach 141,500 tonnes in 2020-21 against 110,000 tonnes the previous year, a variation of + 28.6%.
Citrus exports reached 462,000 tonnes in 2020-21 against 352,000 tonnes the previous year, a variation of + 31.25%.
Potato exports recorded a variation of + 28%. Production reached 5.4 million tonnes against 4.4 million tonnes last year, a variation of + 22.7%. Onion production reached 2.3 million tonnes.
Other satisfactions: cereals. Wheat production increased by + 8.10% and rice production increased by + 13.56% while maize production increased by + 7.38%. With these good results, Pakistan will reduce its imports and decrease its dependence on other countries for these commodities.
