This is what the statistics shows published by the Mediterranean Exporters Union Coordinator for the Turkish sector of fruits and vegetables.
More than 37,000 tonnes of fruit were exported this last month, against 30,000 tonnes in April 2015. More than half of exports are apples, 15% of total exports are strawberries, 7% of peaches / nectarines, 7% grenades, 4% plums and 4% apricots.
The efforts by exporters to diversify their markets appear to have paid off, in the top 20 countries, Russia is absent while there was the emergence of new importing countries like India, Belarus and Poland, which did not export in April 2015. The first 3 importing countries are Iraq, constituting 35 percent of the market (by value), followed by Romania with 18 percent of the market and Germany with 6 percent. Although Syria arrives in 5th position, its exports fell by 10% in volume but up to 25% in value. Countries like Saudi Arabia and the UAE have increased their exports in amazing ways over 6000 percent and 4000 percent respectively.
