The Philippines was selected as a new target market due to its increasing demand for fresh produce and its strategic position in ASEAN trade.
South Korea’s South Gyeongsang Province has officially begun bell pepper exports to the Philippines, marking its first shipment to the Southeast Asian market. A ceremony was held on May 13 at the Changwon Gagopa Export Agricultural Complex to celebrate the departure of 3.2 tons of bell peppers, following a smaller 600-kilogram trial shipment in December 2024.
Located in the southeastern region of the country, South Gyeongsang is a major agricultural hub. Until now, its bell peppers were primarily exported to Japan. However, due to Japan’s prolonged economic slowdown and worsening export conditions, the province is actively diversifying its trade partnerships.
The Philippines was selected as a new target market due to its increasing demand for fresh produce and its strategic position in ASEAN trade. The peppers will be supplied to a major local distributor, with officials hoping this will open doors to further expansion across Southeast Asia.
