Tesco profits surge

The figures were helped by strong sales in non-food items such as DVDs and stationery. Non-food now accounts for 20 percent of Tesco's sales.
UK sales were up 11.5 percent at £13.1bn and its overseas units, which account for one fifth of its operations, saw sales jump 14.9 percent to £3.4bn.
