20 Georgian growers formed in 2023 the Georgia Blueberry Growers Association (GBGA), after massive plantings were made between 2020 and 2023.
"Our goal is to ensure the development of Georgian blueberry industry and adoption of new innovative technologies and techniques in the production process" said Shota Tsukoshvili the CEO of the young association. Today’s blueberry orchards of the country represent about 3000ha, just 15% of the being in full production. 2024 has been the first relevant commercial season with about 5000 tons exported and 500 sold domestically. “We expect to produce between 20 and 25,000 tons of commercial blueberries by 2028” confirms Shota..
International customers and investors
While Russia has been the traditional market for Georgian produce, new destinations started to be supplied this season like Germany, Poland and Dubai. The marketing season goes from May 20th until July 10th. Georgia also start attracting international investors like, North Bay Produce and Prize. The growing conditions of Georgia are suitable for early and late varieties, with chilling hours between 500 to 1200."
