The Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa) has announced plans to begin domestic cultivation.
Brazil's pistachio imports have surged dramatically in the past two years, growing from 350 tons in 2022 to over 1,000 tons in 2024, with the year still underway, according to local media. This remarkable increase highlights the nut's rising popularity across various culinary sectors in the country.
Pistachios are transforming Brazil’s food scene, featuring in baked goods, desserts, and savory dishes, as people embrace their versatility and nutritional value.
Despite its growing demand, pistachios are not yet cultivated in Brazil. However, the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa) has announced plans to begin domestic cultivation in Ceará by 2027, potentially reducing reliance on imports and opening new opportunities for local producers.
Currently, the world’s top pistachio producers remain the United States and Iran.
