Growth of Peruvian Sweet Potato Exports

Peruvian sweet potato exports from January to August 2024 reached a total of 5,965.5 tons, representing a 38.3% increase compared to the same period in the previous year, according to market analyst Heber Chávez.
This expert stated that Peruvian sweet potatoes were exported to 21 international markets, with Chile standing out as the main destination, accounting for 60.4% of total shipments. The United States follows with 22.4%, while other countries combined account for 17.2%.
Sweet potato exports are carried out in various forms: fresh, frozen, dehydrated, as flour, and in other presentations.
Peru produces over 276 thousand tons of sweet potatoes annually. According to data from the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri), over 16 thousand hectares are cultivated, with Lima, Ica, Áncash, Piura, Lambayeque, La Libertad, and Tacna being some of the main producing regions.
