Ecuador enters Hong Kong market with fresh blueberry exports

New shipments aim to meet quality standards and expand to global markets amid high transport costs.
Ecuador has begun exporting blueberries to Hong Kong, starting with three pallets weekly and aiming to increase as the season progresses. This addition joins other Ecuadorian products like yellow pitahaya and pomegranate already available internationally.
To meet the quality standards of the Hong Kong market, investments have been made in advanced technology, including a sizing machine that helps ensure blueberries meet the desired firmness and Brix levels.
Despite the high air transport costs from Ecuador, efforts are underway to position the country as a novel and attractive source for importers. Plans are in place to expand blueberry exports to key markets, including the United States, Singapore, Malaysia, Turkey, Spain, and the Netherlands.
