The National Mango Board consists of 18 members: eight importers, seven foreign producers, two domestic producers, and one first handler.
Established in 1966, industry-funded research and promotion boards like this one were authorized by Congress to develop new markets, enhance existing ones, and conduct critical research and promotional activities. The USDA's AMS oversees 22 such boards, ensuring fiscal accountability and program integrity.
AMS emphasizes diversity in the boards it supervises, encouraging representation that reflects the industry's range of experiences, production methods, marketing strategies, and perspectives. The nomination process prioritizes outreach to underserved communities to ensure the boards serve and represent a broad, diverse population effectively.
